Worthy Locations in Krabi Town – Our Guide

February 14, 2020
Bluesotel Smart Krabi

When tourists travel to Krabi, once they reach the airport, they commonly get transported to their boutique beachside resorts and hotels immediately. However, because of this, they’ve just missed a gem of the place, Krabi Town. While accommodations there aren’t by the beach, they aren’t too far away. Plus, these places are much more affordable compared to beachside accommodation, meaning that if tourists were to stay there, they’d have plenty more money to spend during their vacation.

That said, Krabi Town is an important hub to get to and from what we feel is the best place to take pictures at. If you are wondering what these places are, here are the two locations we’re talking about:

1. The Tiger Cave Temple
Found 3km away from Krabi Town, Tiger Cave Temple, known as Wat Tham Sua by the locals, is one of Thailand’s most stunning temples. Legend has it that the cave housed a tiger over a hundred years ago, which gave the temple its name.

When you visit the temple, you’ll find out that it is a cave situated amidst a jungle, housing many different monks. While the caves are a sight to behold, the real attraction here is the temple that rests on top of the mountain. While it’ll take you around an hour to scale the mountain, the climb is indeed worth it.

When you reach the top, you will get to see Krabi in panoramic scenes. The ocean, islands, mountains, plantations—all of them giving you a magnificent 360-degree view of the entire area. If you genuinely want to enjoy the most beautiful view here, come during sunrise or sunset.

2. The Dragon Crest Mountain
Also known as Khao Ngon Nak, the Dragon Crest Mountain rests 30km away from Krabi Town. When you visit the place, you’ll be given two options, either a walk through the woodlands to a waterfall or a hike up to the peak of the mountain. The woodland walk towards the waterfall is short, but the hike up the mountain will take you up to four hours. That said, we recommend that you take up the challenge to hike up if you’re fit and have the necessary equipment, such as good hiking shoes.

On your hike, you’ll run into a stream, two different viewpoints, the waterfall, and the peak if you go the full trail. The first viewpoint is quite spectacular, placing you over stunning views of the Andaman Sea. The second viewpoint places you in front of the lush jungles, large plantations, and the towering mountains. After that, the path splits into two, with the right one leading to the waterfall, and the left one to the summit. If you’re here for photo taking, we highly recommend that you head to the summit, which is just another hour of hiking.

Once you reach the top, you’ll find one of if not the best views you’ll ever encounter in Thailand. If you want to know what to expect there, you’ll have to head there and find out for yourself!
